  • Taniesha Horton graduated with her Master’s in Social Work from the University of Southern California in 2017 and has been in practice ever since. She has experience working with moderate to severe mental health illnesses at an adult outpatient clinic within the LA County Department of Mental Health. She has also helped children and families in both the Pasadena and LA Unified School Districts, providing individual, family, and group therapy.

  • My personal journey led me to my profession today. Perhaps you can relate and find similarities in your own story.

Growing up, I struggled with finding ways to cope with symptoms of anxiety, and I lacked self-awareness because I suppressed my emotions. Rather than cultivating a healthy relationship with my emotions, I instead learned to suppress and deny them, leading to feelings of shame and guilt and believing that I was never good enough. I minimized the importance of my mental health and continued to deny myself the help and healing I needed, even into my adult years.

But that’s what led me to develop a passion for mental health. I realized that I needed to heal from within so that I could feel more joy, peace, and balance in every aspect of my life. Through my own healing journey, I also learned that I wasn’t the only one going through these experiences, leading me to become a therapist to help others with their own mental health journeys.

“You can only bring a client as far as you have brought yourself” is a lesson I learned during my time in graduate school that has become the heart of my therapy practice. I want you to know that you’ll receive compassion, empathy and the best level of care, while working with me.

I hope to hear your own story soon. I’m thrilled to connect with you!
